Throughout the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), CMS released flexibilities for services and coverage that may not have been covered prior to the PHE. CMS continuously reminded providers to consistently document services provided under these flexibilities because medical reviews will continue after the PHE ends.
CMS has released a FAQ page detailing how Medicare review contractors (Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs), and the Supplemental Medical Review Contractor (SMRC)) plan to conduct medical reviews after the PHE ends.
