CPU to interface Alpha II’s ClaimStaker with its MED/FM medical billing software system
by Sage Practice Management System
In April, CPU deployed ClaimStaker software to a client, MediNomics™, as a beta installation. MediNomics, a revenue cycle management firm, uses ClaimStaker to verify and edit every claim prior to committing the claim or a batch of claims.
“With the integration of ClaimStaker and MED/FM, our physician practice clients get the best claims scrubbing available,” says Patrick F. Lukacs, CEO, MediNomics. “ClaimStaker gives our coders and data-entry staff the tools to scrub all claims against CCI edits, LCDs, NCDs and customized macros and rules. Our clients not only see faster reimbursement through reduced denied claims, but the denials are now limited to complex coverage issues and requests from insurance companies for paper records to support payment. We are not seeing denials based on medical necessity and inconsistent diagnosis denials, which used to slip through and require rework on the back end.”
ClaimStaker is also helping MediNomics meet another key objective: providing clients with coding education and awareness of reimbursement and compliance issues. “ClaimStaker supports these objectives through its rules-based engine and clear and concise reporting,” says Lukacs. “ClaimStaker reports assist our team in providing crucial education and awareness to our clients.”
“Similar to what we’ve witnessed from MediNomics, we are expecting a very strong response to the availability of ClaimStaker from our medical billing service clients,” says Michael Stringer, president and CEO, CPU Medical Management Systems. “After all, several of our clients specifically recommended that we consider interfacing ClaimStaker with MED/FM. We’re confident that ClaimStaker will help our clients better serve their physician customers that are having problems with medical necessity denials.”
“CPU and its medical billing service clients are informed, discerning customers when it comes to evaluating claims scrubbers, and we’re delighted that CPU and its clients have chosen ClaimStaker,” says Marla Harmon, vice president of operations for MEGAS, LLC, one of the software developers behind the Alpha II cobranded solution. “ClaimStaker has a demonstrated track record of helping practices increase revenue, reduce denials, meet compliance regulations and monitor coding practices. We are thrilled that CPU and its clients appreciate the results that ClaimStaker delivers.”
Using essentially the same technology utilized by payers, Alpha II’s ClaimStaker verifies both professional and institutional claims using the industry’s most comprehensive medical necessity and coding edits database. ClaimStaker validates the overall claim for technical details including file format and checks line items for valid procedure, diagnosis and revenue codes, proper modifier usage, medical necessity, LCD/NCD appropriateness, unbundling and E/M over-coding or under-coding.
