Alpha II, NCEB – Practice Management Solutions Announce Agreement
Billing service uses Alpha II’s ClaimStaker software to improve clean claims rate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – May 27, 2008 Alpha II, a leader in healthcare coding, compliance and reimbursement, today announced a contract with NCEB – Practice Management Solutions, a billing services and practice management solutions firm based in Sheffield Village, Ohio. NCEB has already begun using Alpha II’s ClaimStaker software to verify clients’ claims and edit them prior to submission.

NCEB’s primary objective with ClaimStaker is to improve the rate of claims accepted on the first pass for its clients, who represent a wide range of specialties including cardiology, gastroenterology, family medicine, pulmonary, nuclear medicine and other practice types. By submitting a higher percentage of clean claims, NCEB can improve cash flow for its clients.

“Since we started using ClaimStaker in March, we have already dramatically improved our clean claims rate,” says Cathy Czarney, CPC, coding manager at NCEB. “And we’ve taken advantage of the ability to customize our own macros to suit specific providers and specialties. Customizing the claim scrubbing process for even challenging specialties is a simple matter.”

In addition to cleaner claims, Czarney explains that ClaimStaker’s reporting features have impacted NCEB as well: “I’ve begun using ClaimStaker to identify patterns,” she says. “That’s been useful as a tool for training new coders. I can educate them about certain mistakes so they can get up to speed more quickly.”

“NCEB is a forward-thinking company constantly adding new capabilities that strengthen its role as an advocate for its clients, so we’re pleased that ClaimStaker is now a part of the organization’s toolbox,” says Marla Harmon, vice president of operations for MEGAS, LLC, one of the software developers behind the Alpha II cobranded solution. “Over just a few short months, NCEB is faced with fewer denied and rejected claims to re-work, which means the staff can redirect its time and focus to other tasks.”

Using essentially the same technology that payers use, Alpha II’s ClaimStaker verifies both professional and institutional claims using the industry’s most comprehensive medical necessity and coding edits database. ClaimStaker validates diagnosis codes, procedure codes, OPPS codes, medical necessity codes, claim-level technical details and file formats.
