The year is 1983. Frustrated by the existing ICD-9 database’s arcane structure, Dr. Paul Tanaka envisions a new, clinically-oriented approach. So he puts his knowledge to work and begins redesigning and rebuilding the database to support diagnosis code search by condition, abbreviation or keyword.

A few years later, the first automated code search and edit software for outpatient facilities hits the marketplace. Soon, Dr. Tanaka’s idea evolves into CodingSystem, the product that launches Alpha II Software Solutions.

Proven performance
Today, Alpha II’s various technologies support coding, compliance, claims editing and revenue analysis on behalf of more than 30,000 healthcare professionals at medical practices, hospitals and health systems, clinics, billing services, outpatient facilities, and other organizations.

We serve end user and hospital clients directly, but more commonly, through working with their software vendors. More than 30 developer partners rely on Alpha II to enhance their practice management, electronic medical record, and other healthcare information systems. More partners are realizing its value everyday.

Experience and service
Founded on the strength of innovative thinking, Alpha II began as a collaboration between MEGAS, a leader in healthcare software development, EDI transactions and system integration, and UnicorMed, a leading coding software developer and publisher of ICD-9 coding material.

Our longevity is due to our expertise as nurses, physicians and registered health information administrators as well as software engineers, EDI specialists, certified coders, compliance consultants, medical managers and business consultants.

In a complex discipline like information technology, the intricacies of healthcare finance multiply your challenges. Going beyond knowledge, our commitment to service has driven the partnership necessary for our clients to succeed. Many Alpha II clients choose intuitive, stand-alone solutions they can install and use right away. For developers and others with special requirements, we’re always available for consultations to help identify the ideal work-flow and implementation strategy. And we’re always there to provide the support and guidance you need.
